Benjamin Leroux Meursault Les Narvaux 2022

Les Narvaux is one of the highest vineyards in Meursault, sitting above the premier cru Les Genevrières, and Leroux's parcel carries the tribute Les Vignes de Jean on its back label.

The 0.10-hectare plot was planted in 1975 at the top of the vineyard, in Les Narvaux Dessus, within the Clos de Narvaux and beside Dominique Lafon's vines. Soils are very shallow, with plenty of limestone and enough iron oxide to give the clay a reddish cast. Although the site is high, it faces south, and with low yields that combination allows full ripeness; Leroux describes it as a dream vineyard. It had been farmed for a generation without a tractor by a vigneron who died this year at 85, having worked until his final hours, and the back label honours him. Around 5% of the planting is Chardonnay Muscaté, an aromatic old strain of the variety. The result is a riper, more textural wine.

Drinking from three years and good for eight or more; serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, richer seafood or a creamy soft cheese.
