Benjamin Leroux Meursault Les Narvaux 2024

Benjamin Leroux Meursault Les Narvaux is a village Meursault from one of the commune’s highest vineyards.

Narvaux sits above premier cru Les Genevrières, and this wine comes from 0.10 hectares planted in 1975 at the very top, in Les Narvaux Dessus, inside the Clos de Narvaux and right next to Dominique Lafon’s vines. The soils are shallow, with plenty of limestone and enough iron oxide in the clay to turn it reddish. High as it is, the parcel faces south, and with low yields that gets the fruit properly ripe. Leroux calls it a dream vineyard; it was farmed for a generation without a tractor by a vigneron who worked the rows until his final hours, aged 85. Eighteen bottles shipped.

High-grown Meursault at its most stony. Rocky, mineral and smoky, with citrus and white stone fruit over a long, insistent finish. Serve at 12 to 13 degrees, decanted while young. Grilled turbot, roast chicken, or a mushroom and comté tart.
