Benjamin Leroux Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots 2024

Benjamin Leroux Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots is a Pinot Noir from a single 0.3-hectare parcel on the upper slope of one of the village's finest crus.

Boudots sits at the Vosne end of Nuits-Saint-Georges, and it is usually described as the most Vosne-like wine in the commune. Leroux, who took the parcel on in 2015, pushes back on that: his vines in Vosne's Aux Malconsorts are barely a few hundred metres away, and the two behave nothing alike in barrel. Lalou Bize-Leroy, who farms more than a hectare here, has said much the same. The rocky upper-slope ground gives tiny bunches of old Pinot Fin, which take a high proportion of whole bunches comfortably. One barrel was made in 2024.

Florals arrive first, violet and rose, then red berry fruit, pepper and a fine-grained, drawn-out finish. Decant and serve at 16 degrees. Duck, mushroom risotto or slow-cooked lamb shoulder are the sort of company it wants.
