Benjamin Leroux Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens-Hauts 2024

Benjamin Leroux Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens-Hauts is a Pinot Noir from the iron-rich red clay at the foot of Pommard's most celebrated cru.

Years spent making the wines at Domaine du Comte Armand left Leroux with a clear view of Pommard, and he has always said Les Rugiens was the one cru that could pull him back to the village. A long-term contract signed in 2017, with the same owner as his Volnay Caillerets parcel, did exactly that. He now works 0.6 hectares across three small plots of 25- to 90-year-old vines, all at the foot of Rugiens-Hauts, the band most growers, him included, rate as the source of the village's greatest wines. The soil is the same ferrous red clay he knew so well.

Inky, fleshy and deep, with dark cherry, iron and tannin built for the long haul. Cellar it, or decant hard and serve at 17 degrees. Beef cheek, venison, or a well-hung rib of beef, ideally a decade from now.
