Description
Benjamin Leroux Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Hauts Jarrons comes from the heart of the cru on the east-facing, Beaune side of the valley.
Savigny-lès-Beaune sits in a side valley north-west of Beaune and is split by the Rhoin, with the Beaune-facing slope generally giving the more elegant wines and the Pernand side the firmer ones. Les Hauts Jarrons lies on that elegant Beaune flank, which suits it well in powerful vintages. The vines belong to a close friend of Leroux and sit in the middle of the Premier Cru. As across most of the Côte d'Or the soils here are clay and limestone, but the clay is light and sandy, which gives a wine with more flesh than the village cuvée while keeping a finer line. The 2020 was fermented with only a pinch of whole bunch. It remains one of the better value Premiers Crus in the range.
Drinks well from release but will gain over three to seven years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast pork, duck rillettes or a mushroom pithivier.
