Benjamin Leroux's Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Hauts Jarrons comes from vines owned by a close friend of the winemaker, on the Beaune side of the commune.

Savigny-lès-Beaune occupies a side valley off the Côte de Beaune, and its premiers crus fall on two slopes: the cooler Pernand flank and the east-facing Beaune flank, where Les Hauts Jarrons lies. The most elegant Savigny reds tend to come from this side, which makes it a useful source in powerful years. Soils are the usual Côte d'Or clay and limestone, but the clay here is light and sandy, so the wine carries more flesh than the village cuvée while also gaining in finesse. Leroux buys the fruit from a friend who owns the parcel in the heart of the premier cru. All of it was destemmed. He set up his own label in 2007 and works as both grower and négociant across the Côte, with a deliberately unforced hand in the cellar, and the style here is bright and juicy. As premier cru Burgundy goes, it is fairly priced.

It drinks well on release but repays three to seven years. Try it with roast pork, coq au vin or a plate of charcuterie at 16–18°C.
