Benjamin Leroux Volnay 2024

Benjamin Leroux Volnay is a village Pinot Noir from the two Poisots lieux-dits on the Pommard boundary.

Les Grands Poisots and Les Petits Poisots run along the southern edge of Volnay where the commune meets Pommard, and the wines from here lean that way: deeper clay, older vines, riper and firmer tannin than the lighter soils further up the hill. Leroux has been making Volnay for more than two decades and treats this cuvée seriously, with a measured share of whole bunches, maturation in large oak, and nothing hurried. Frost and mildew cut yields across the Côte d'Or in 2024, which has only concentrated what came in.

Wildly floral, with dark red fruit and a powdery, fine-grained structure underneath. Serve at 16 degrees after a short decant. Roast lamb, duck confit, or a mushroom and thyme tart will all suit; give it three or four years and it will be better again.
