Description
Benjamin Leroux Vosne-Romanée is a village wine assembled from five separate lieux-dits, almost all planted to old selections of Pinot Fin.
Vosne-Romanée is the most celebrated red-wine village of the Côte de Nuits, and its village-level wines draw on a wide spread of terroirs on either side of the grand cru core. Leroux now controls two hectares here, and this cuvée benefited from the fruit of five lieux-dits. Running from north to south they include Maizières Basses, organically farmed with 60-year-old Pinot Fin; a small portion of Les Violettes; a newly acquired parcel of old-vine Pinot Fin in Genaivrières, just below the vines of Domaine Leroy; and finally Les Jacquines and Au-Dessus de la Rivière. The vine material is what marks the blend out, being almost exclusively old massal selections of Pinot Fin. Each parcel was vinified separately, and the one-third whole-bunch component came mostly from the two northern plots.
Approachable from about four years and good for a decade; serve at 16°C with roast duck, game birds or a mushroom ragout.
