Description
Benjamin Leroux Vosne-Romanée is a village red assembled from five separate lieux-dits, almost all of it old selections of Pinot Fin.
Vosne-Romanée is the most closely watched village of the Côte de Nuits, and its village-level wines depend heavily on which parcels a grower can call on. Leroux, who set up his own house in Beaune after years running Domaine du Comte Armand, now controls two hectares in Vosne. From north to south the sites are Maizières Basses, organically farmed with sixty-year-old Pinot Fin; a small portion of Les Violettes; a parcel of old-vine Pinot Fin in Genaivrières; and Les Jacquines and Au-Dessus de la Rivière. These span the different terroirs of the commune and each was vinified separately. Around half the fruit was fermented as whole bunches, drawn mostly from the two northern parcels. The wine is bottled under natural cork, and the style is rich without losing tension.
Best given three to five years and good for a decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, beef bourguignon or a plate of soft, earthy cheeses.
