Description
Benjamin Leroux Vosne-Romanée is a village Pinot Noir blended from five separate lieux-dits.
What makes this bottling work is the plant material: almost all of it is old massale selection of Pinot Fin, the small-bunched, low-cropping type that gives Vosne its density. Leroux now controls two hectares in the commune. Running north to south, the blend takes in Maizières Basses, organically farmed with sixty-year-old vines, part of Les Violettes, a newly acquired old-vine parcel in Genaivrières just below Domaine Leroy, and then Les Jacquines, Au Village and Au-Dessus de la Rivière. Yields in 2024 fell to three hectolitres per hectare, a fraction of a normal crop.
Floral and blue-fruited, fleshy through the middle, with a sappy, lifted finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees, decanted. Roast duck, beef with morels, or a plate of good charcuterie; it has the depth to reward five years in the cellar first.
