Description

Benoît Moreau Chassagne-Montrachet is a village wine assembled from six parcels, several of them sitting directly below Premier Cru vineyards.

Chassagne-Montrachet makes both red and white but is now known chiefly for Chardonnay, on limestone-rich slopes at the southern end of the Côte de Beaune. Benoît Moreau left the family domaine to set up on his own and this village cuvée is his largest wine, covering 1.4 hectares in total. The most northerly parcel is En Journoblot, which borders Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet. The core comes from three more central vineyards: Voillenot Dessus and Les Chambres, both beneath the Premier Cru Maltroie, and Les Masures under Champ Gains. The southernmost parcel, La Platière, lies below the Abbaye de Morgeot climat. Blending across that spread gives breadth without losing focus, and barely ten per cent of the wine was raised in new oak, so the fruit and the chalky structure carry it.

Drinking now and good for six to eight years. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, grilled fish or a creamy risotto.
