Description
Benoît Moreau Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly comes from two small plots of 30- and 60-year-old vines at the southern end of the vineyard.
En Remilly is the most celebrated premier cru of Saint-Aubin, sitting directly above the grand crus of the Chassagne and Puligny slope and sharing much of their thin, stony limestone. Wines from here have long been the village's calling card and are among the most sought after in the Côte de Beaune at this level. Benoît Moreau, who took over part of the family holdings at Domaine Bernard Moreau, farms two tiny plots at the southern end of the site, one of 30-year-old vines and one of 60-year-old vines. His approach across the range is consistent: careful picking, natural ferments, extended lees ageing and a light hand with new oak, which allows the limestone character of the site to lead. Quantities are small, as they are for most of the domaine's cuvées.
Fleshy but taut, it is enjoyable young and will keep six to ten years; serve with grilled white fish, roast chicken or a young Comté at 10-12°C.
