Bernabeleva Madrid Camino de Navaherreros Blanco 2023

Camino de Navaherreros Blanco is an organically farmed old-vine white from Bernabeleva, in the granite country west of Madrid.

Vinos de Madrid takes in the vineyards west and south of the capital, and Bernabeleva farms at San Martin de Valdeiglesias, in the sandy granite of the Gredos foothills where altitude and old bush vines keep the wines fresh in a hot climate. The Camino de Navaherreros range was created as an entry point for the estate's American importer and has since become the way most drinkers meet the property. The white draws heavily on the estate's old-vine Albillo, which brings texture and floral character, balanced by a field blend of Macabeo, Garnacha Blanca and Malvar. Farming is organic. The grapes are softly pressed and ferment spontaneously in a mix of used oak barrels, large oak vats and stainless steel, with sandstone tinajas now part of the picture. There is always a portion of whole bunches and skin maceration, some parcels go through malolactic conversion depending on the year, and the wine is bottled after nine months on lees.

Drink over the next three years; serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, grilled prawns or a hard sheep's-milk cheese.
