Description
Bessin Tremblay Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume blends three old-vine parcels of different aspect, age and rootstock, including the estate's emblematic La Pièce au Comte.
The cuvée draws on 1.15 hectares in the heart of Fourchaume plus a small portion of L'Homme Mort at the northern end of the premier cru. The core material comes from vines planted between 1959 and 1971, which give a vigorous, energetic reading of the site. This release includes the harvest from La Pièce au Comte, the parcel of the Count, named for the local aristocrat who once owned it and the Tremblay family's first vineyard holding in Chablis. It covers a single hectare in the heart of Fourchaume; its oldest vines, planted in 1934, were replanted with massal selections in 2014, while the rest of the vineyard still carries vines from the 1950s. Raised in 30 per cent old oak, the wine is sleek in texture with white flowers, grapefruit bitters and brine, and a long, rocky, saline finish.
Drinking well now and capable of five to eight years; serve at 10–12°C with oysters, grilled whiting or a fresh goat's cheese.
