Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2020

Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is the classic Brunello from the estate where the wine was first created.

It was at Tenuta Greppo, just outside the hill town of Montalcino, that Ferruccio Biondi Santi isolated a particular clone of Sangiovese in the 19th century and bottled the first wine to carry the name Brunello in 1888. The estate still works with its own selection of that clone and ferments with native yeasts. The annata, or standard Brunello, comes from mature vines and spends an extended period in large Slavonian oak casks, a traditional approach that favours finesse and longevity over weight and new-wood flavour. The house style is restrained in alcohol and marked by fresh acidity and fine tannins.

Open it an hour or two ahead and serve at around 16 to 18 degrees. Bistecca alla Fiorentina, wild boar ragu, roast pigeon or aged pecorino are traditional partners. Biondi-Santi Brunello is known for its ability to age for decades.
