Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Museum Release 1983

Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Museum Release is a rare, fully mature Riserva from the estate that defined Brunello.

In 1983 Montalcino was a far smaller and quieter appellation than it is today, and this bottle reflects that earlier era. It was made at Tenuta Greppo from the Sangiovese clone the family selected for its capacity to age, and matured in traditional large oak casks. The estate has long cared for its old vintages by periodically checking, topping up and recorking them, and the supplier notes that this vintage was refilled in 2000. More than forty years on, the estate reports clean fruit, rounded tannins and acidity that still keeps the wine fresh.

Handle a bottle of this age gently. Rest it upright for a couple of days, open it shortly before serving at 16 to 18 degrees, and pour slowly to leave the sediment behind. Plain roast meats or a mushroom risotto will let the wine take centre stage.
