Biondi-Santi Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2023

Biondi-Santi Rosso di Montalcino DOC is the younger, earlier-drinking Sangiovese from Montalcino's most historic estate.

Rosso di Montalcino is made from the same grape and the same hillsides as Brunello, with a shorter ageing requirement. At Tenuta Greppo it is treated as a serious wine in its own right. The fruit generally comes from the estate's younger vines, all propagated from the family's own Sangiovese clone, and the wine is matured in large Slavonian oak for a shorter spell than its bigger siblings. That keeps the emphasis on bright red fruit, supple tannin and lively acidity. The estate describes the 2023 as lively and elegant, a straightforward yet stylish take on Sangiovese.

Ready to enjoy on release, and it will hold comfortably for several years. Serve at around 16 degrees with pappardelle and ragu, grilled sausages, roast chicken with herbs or a margherita pizza.
