Description
Bisci Verdicchio di Matelica is a benchmark white from the elevated hills of Matelica in the Marche, one of only two DOCs entitled to the Verdicchio di Matelica name and widely regarded as the more structured, age-worthy sibling of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi.
The Bisci estate was founded in 1972 by brothers Giuseppe and Pierino Bisci, who built it into one of the reference producers of Verdicchio di Matelica; today the domaine is run by the next generation, Mauro and Tito Bisci. The vineyards sit at 320-370 metres on south-facing slopes on the border of the Macerata and Ancona provinces, a cooler, more continental pocket than the coastal Castelli di Jesi zone, and have been farmed to organic protocols since 2016. This higher-altitude, limestone-rich terroir is what gives Matelica Verdicchio its trademark tension and mineral backbone.
A precise, food-friendly white with real structure and cellaring potential, it suits everything from grilled seafood to richer pasta and poultry dishes.
