Blank Canvas Element Vineyard Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Syrah is a single-vineyard Syrah in magnum, from one of New Zealand's leading red wine sub-regions.

An old riverbed, the Gimblett Gravels is all deep, stony, free-draining soil that holds the day's heat and suits late-ripening reds. Syrah from here tends to be peppery, perfumed and medium-bodied, closer in feel to the northern Rhône than to warm-climate Shiraz. The husband-and-wife team behind the label, Matt Thomson and Sophie Parker-Thomson MW, mature it in French oak.

Fragrant, peppery and fine-boned. The big bottle means it will age more slowly than a 750ml, so there's no rush. Serve at 15–17°C with lamb, game birds or charcuterie.
