Blank Canvas Escaroth Vineyard Marlborough Pinot Noir is a silky single-vineyard Pinot Noir made by Matt Thomson and Sophie Parker-Thomson.

The same site also gives the couple their Chardonnay. Cool nights and a long growing season suit Pinot Noir here, and the extraction is kept gentle, with maturation in French oak, so perfume, fine tannins and a sense of place come through. Between them, the pair have decades of winemaking experience at home and abroad.

Fragrant and silky, with a savoury edge. Try it at 14–16°C with duck breast, roast pork, salmon or mushroom risotto. Lovely now, and it will keep improving for a few years.
