Description

Blank Canvas Reed Vineyard Chardonnay is a single-site white from the middle of Marlborough's Wairau Valley.

Clone 95 vines, top-grafted onto older Gewurztraminer stock, sit where the Wairau and Waihopai rivers meet. Matt Thomson and Sophie Parker-Thomson MW pick by hand, press whole bunches and let the juice ferment on wild yeast in French oak puncheons, around 40 per cent of them new. Twelve months on fine lees follow, and the wine goes into bottle unfiltered.

Expect white peach and grapefruit with a struck-match edge, held straight by a fine line of acidity. Serve at 12 degrees with roast chicken, grilled snapper or a bowl of mussels.
