Description
Blind Corner Quindalup Cabernet is a Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon from the Goulds' coastal vineyard.
Quindalup lies on the northern, coastal edge of Margaret River, with sand over pea gravel and a granite base. It is lighter ground than the ironstone-rich sites inland, and it tends to give Cabernet with more perfume and less heft. Ben and Naomi Gould farm here organically and biodynamically, pick by hand, ferment on wild yeasts and add almost nothing beyond a small amount of sulphur. Maturation happens in seasoned oak, so the fruit does the talking. Margaret River remains Australia's most reliable source of Cabernet, and this is a low-intervention read on it.
Blackcurrant and bay leaf with a savoury, gravelly finish and tannin that has softened nicely with age. Serve at 17 degrees, decanted briefly. Roast lamb, a good steak, or a hard washed-rind cheese at the end of a long dinner.
