Description
Blind Corner Quindalup Chardonnay Aligoté is a biodynamic Margaret River white blend carrying the highest Aligoté proportion the Goulds have bottled.
Aligoté climbs to fifteen per cent in 2024, and the difference is easy to taste: the Chardonnay gives weight and mouthfeel, the Aligoté cuts a line of acid and a tang of lemon curd straight through it. Oak comes back into the picture too, with sixty per cent of the ferment in barrel and the rest in a concrete egg, malolactic conversion in the same vessels and twelve months resting on lees. The Chardonnay is old Gingin clone cropping very low; the small plot next door remains the region's only one of its kind. Ben rates this the best release of the wine yet.
Linear and taut, with lemon, white flowers and a chalky finish, the oak sitting well back where it belongs. Serve at 11 to 12 degrees. Oysters Kilpatrick, roast chicken, or a wedge of Comté with quince paste.
