Description
La Maldición Tinto de Valdilecha is a co-fermented Madrid red, three-quarters old-vine Tempranillo with the local white grape Malvar making up the rest.
Vinos de Madrid is a working appellation rather than a fashionable one, and Marc Isart's solo project sits at its unshowy end. Isart is best known for his work at Bernabeleva in the Gredos hills above Madrid, and the same low-intervention, organic approach carries into this small label. His parcel lies in the Arganda del Rey area, with the Tempranillo grown at Valdilecha at 780 metres and the Malvar at Belmonte at a similar altitude. The vines are farmed biodynamically and picked by hand. Both varieties are co-fermented with natural yeasts, which is the older regional habit rather than a modern affectation, and the wine spends twenty to twenty-five days on skins before ageing in cement and stainless steel. No oak is used. The wine was previously labelled Tinto Para Beber, a red to drink.
Made for drinking rather than keeping, though it will hold a few years. Serve at 16°C, or slightly cooler, with grilled meats, lentil stew or a plate of jamón.
