Description
Bodegas Exopto Rioja Exopto Rosado is a pale, Provence-inspired rosado from a single plot of 50-year-old vines in San Vicente de la Sonsierra.
Rioja is far better known for its reds, and rosado is often an afterthought there, but Tom Puyaubert came to the region from south-west France and takes his cues from the better rosés of the Côtes de Provence. The fruit comes from Los Pozos, a single parcel of mature vines on the chalky soils of San Vicente de la Sonsierra in the Rioja Alta. The blend is half Grenache and half Tempranillo. Grapes are crushed and pressed straight away, then fermented in tank with indigenous yeasts, and the wine is aged mostly in large foudre on its lees for up to six months. That combination gives it a delicate pastel colour, a chalky texture and considerably more substance than the average pink wine.
Drink within a year or two of release; serve at 10-12C with charcuterie, grilled prawns or a salad of tomatoes and anchovies.
