Description
Bodegas Valdemar Conde Valdemar Gran Reserva is a traditional Rioja released only after several years of ageing in cask and bottle.
Bodegas Valdemar is the winery of the Martínez Bujanda family at Oyón, in Rioja Alavesa, and the family has been growing grapes in the region since the late nineteenth century. Conde Valdemar is their principal range. Gran Reserva is the top rung of Rioja's ageing classification and requires a minimum of five years before release, of which at least two must be in oak cask, followed by a long rest in bottle at the winery. Tempranillo forms the core of the blend, with Graciano bringing acidity and firmness and small proportions of Garnacha and the rare Maturana filling it out; the family has been notably active in reviving Rioja's near forgotten varieties.
Decant and serve at 16 to 18 degrees with roast lamb, game or aged Manchego.
