Bodegas Vega Sicilia Macán Clásico 1.5L MAGNUM 2021

Bodegas Vega Sicilia Macán Clásico is the more traditionally styled of the two Rioja reds made under the Macán label.

Macán is a joint venture between the Álvarez family of Vega Sicilia and the Rothschild family of Edmond de Rothschild, established in Rioja rather than in either house's home territory. The vineyards sit around San Vicente de la Sonsierra in Rioja Alta, on chalky slopes below the Sierra de Cantabria, and both wines are made entirely from Tempranillo. Clásico is drawn from a wider selection of parcels and given a shorter turn in oak, so it arrives at the table earlier than its senior partner while coming from the same vineyards and the same hands. It is the pair's more everyday proposition, without being any less carefully made.

It goes well with roast lamb, grilled meats and cured ham; serve at around 17 degrees, with a short decant if opened young.
