Boekenhoutskloof Porcupine Ridge Syrah 2024

Boekenhoutskloof Porcupine Ridge Syrah shows the peppery, savoury side of Cape Syrah at an easy price.

Porcupine Ridge is the approachable label from the Franschhoek-based Boekenhoutskloof team, whose seven-chair logo is one of the Cape's most recognised. The range brings their Rhône-inspired approach to everyday wines, using fruit from warmer vineyards in the Western Cape. The 2024 is rich and savoury, with dark plum, violets, cured meat and black olive, then liquorice and allspice, grippy tannins, lively acidity and a classic touch of white pepper.

The grippy tannins make it a good partner for red meat. Try it with a peppered steak, lamb shanks or a mushroom stroganoff, at around 16 to 18 degrees.
