Boekenhoutskloof Semillon 2021

Boekenhoutskloof Semillon is a refined, barrel-fermented Semillon from old Franschhoek vines.

Semillon was once the most widely planted grape in the Cape, and some of the oldest vines still survive in the Franschhoek valley, where Boekenhoutskloof has its home farm. The winery has made this wine from those old vines for many years, and it is one of South Africa's benchmark whites. Subtle oak adds complexity without dominating. The wine is pale and gentle, with melon, acacia, kumquat and ginger spice, and a medium-bodied, textured palate with poached pear, quince and lemon, finishing saline and slightly spicy.

Take it out of the fridge a little before serving so the texture can show. It pairs well with crayfish, roast chicken, pork with apple or a creamy seafood pasta. It also ages very well.
