Description

Boekenhoutskloof The Chocolate Block in magnum is a big-format version of the Cape's cult Syrah blend.

Magnums age more slowly and gracefully than standard bottles, which suits a wine as structured as this one. Made by the Franschhoek-based Boekenhoutskloof team from Swartland vineyards, the blend is built on Syrah, with Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and a small amount of Viognier. The 2023 is rich and intense, with blackberry, blueberry, bramble and black olive, then red liquorice and fresh cherry on a broad, smooth palate with svelte tannins.

A magnum is ideal for a long lunch or dinner party. Serve at around 17 degrees alongside slow-roasted lamb, beef brisket or a whole roast pork. Cellar for five to ten years if you like.
