Description
Boekenhoutskloof The Chocolate Block is one of South Africa's best-known red blends, led by Syrah.
First released in the early 2000s, The Chocolate Block quickly became a cult favourite, and it is now made from Swartland fruit. Syrah forms the backbone, with Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and a splash of Viognier adding perfume and complexity. French oak is used with a light hand. The 2024 is medium-bodied and lithe, with blueberry, blackberry and black cherry, liquorice, clove and a hint of espresso, all held together by velvety tannins.
Serve at around 16 to 18 degrees. It is a great match for barbecued meats, lamb tagine or a rich bean stew, and will also cellar well for five years or more.
