Bondar Junto Grenache Shiraz Mataro 2019

Bondar Junto is a Grenache-dominant McLaren Vale red with small parcels of Shiraz, Mataro, Carignan and Counoise.

Grenache takes up 88 per cent of the 2019, the highest share this wine had carried to that point, with Shiraz at six, Mataro at three, Carignan at two and a single per cent of Counoise. Three Grenache blocks feed it: the bulk from the estate's Rayner Vineyard, an eighty-year-old parcel from a grower five kilometres away at McLaren Flat, and the balance from the Trott Wilpena vineyard in Blewitt Springs. Mataro comes from the Kurrajong soils below Willunga, the Carignan and Counoise from young Rayner rows. Roughly 15 per cent whole bunches, wild ferments, old oak only.

Fresh and racy, dripping with red fruit and spice, unpretentious and very easy to finish. Serve at 16 degrees, or slightly cooler on a warm night. Good with grilled sausages, roast pork, or a tomato and olive pasta.
