Bondar Junto Grenache Shiraz Mataro 2025

Bondar Junto is a Grenache-led blend of four southern Rhône varieties from McLaren Vale.

Counoise rejoins the blend at seven per cent in 2025, sitting under Grenache at 72, Mataro at 13 and Shiraz at eight, and it brings a fleshy undercurrent of deep red fruit that recent releases did not have. Grenache comes from Rayner plus a deep sandy site in Blewitt Springs; the Shiraz is Rayner again, off seventy-year-old vines on sand; the Mataro comes from the Lacey vineyard on the rocky Kurrajong soils near Willunga. The season ran riper than 2024, so Andre and Selina picked early to hold the lift. Indigenous ferments, old oak, nothing showy.

Dangerously easy to drink: dark juicy fruit, dried herbs and a lingering umami note, with soft tannin. Serve at 16 degrees, or slightly chilled. Grilled meats, a mushroom pasta, or roast eggplant with yoghurt and toasted pine nuts.
