Bondar Nero 2025

Bondar Nero is a two-vineyard McLaren Vale Nero d'Avola made for early drinking.

Half the blend comes from the grower Andre Bondar has worked with for several years on the foothills behind Willunga, where rocky alluvial clay gives a high-toned, red-fruited, softly pretty wine. The other half is the newer parcel at Tatachilla, planted on black Biscay clay, which runs darker with more fruit density and firmer structure. Together they cover ground neither manages alone. More Nero d'Avola goes into McLaren Vale soil every year — the Sicilian grape copes with heat and holds its acid — and this sits at the fresher, lighter end of what the region is doing with it.

Dark berries and spice with an earthy savoury line and enough acid to keep things moving along. Serve lightly chilled at 14 degrees. Pork sausages off the grill, roast capsicum and anchovy on toast, or a bowl of olives and bread.
