Description
Bonnaire Le Bateau is a single parcel blanc de blancs from grand cru Cramant, bottled separately from the village cuvée.
Le Bateau is a named parcel in Cramant, bottled on its own rather than folded into the village blend. Cramant is a grand cru of the Côte des Blancs, Chardonnay country, where a shallow topsoil lies over deep chalk and the wines combine breadth with a saline, mineral close. The Bonnaire family has been established in the village since the 1930s and works a little over twenty hectares, most of it grand cru Chardonnay. A parcel bottling of this kind is made in small quantity and given long ageing on lees in the cellars under the village before disgorgement, and it is finished extra brut, with a dosage of one and a half grams per litre that leaves the site to speak plainly.
Very dry and tightly wound, it is a wine for the table rather than the aperitif hour: scallops, turbot or a plain roast chicken; serve at around ten or eleven degrees.
