Bowen Estate Shiraz 2024

Bowen Estate Shiraz is a generous Coonawarra red, and the 2024 is a powerhouse of colour and aroma from a standout year.

Planted by Doug Bowen in the 1970s, the family's vineyard sits on the renowned red soil over limestone that runs north to south through the district. Cool nights and a long growing season give Shiraz depth of colour along with the peppery edge that marks cooler-climate styles. The family still tends the vines by hand, and the winemaking is traditional, letting ripe fruit and oak find a natural balance. In the year that brought the estate's 50th harvest, the Shiraz bursts with ripe plum and a flicker of pepper, flowing generously across the palate to a long, persistent finish.

Open a bottle for a winter roast or a weekend barbecue: serve at around 16 to 18 degrees with slow-cooked beef brisket, lamb shanks or a hearty lentil and mushroom stew. It will also cellar well for several years.
