Bret Brothers Mâcon-Villages Terroirs du Mâconnais 1.5L MAGNUM 2017

Bret Brothers Mâcon-Villages Terroirs du Mâconnais, in magnum, is a Mâcon blended from barrels of Viré-Clessé, Saint-Véran and Pouilly-Fuissé held back from the family's named cuvées.

Mâcon-Villages runs across the southern end of Burgundy, its Chardonnay planted on limestone, clay and marl, and the appellation has always been built on assembling several sites. Bret Brothers is the merchant house Jean-Philippe, Jean-Guillaume and Marc-Antoine Bret founded in 2001 alongside their family domaine, La Soufrandière at Vinzelles, and this cuvée gathers barrels from Viré-Clessé La Verchère, Saint-Véran En Combe and Pouilly-Fuissé En Carementrant that did not make the cut for those appellations. Vines run from twenty-five to seventy years old and the fruit is organically farmed, hand picked by the Brets, whole-bunch pressed, fermented on indigenous yeasts and aged eleven months in 228-litre barrels with no new oak. This is the 1.5-litre format: the same wine in a bottle whose larger volume slows its evolution and suits a longer table.

A magnum to open within a few years, with roast chicken, grilled fish or a plate of soft cheeses. Serve at 10-12°C.
