Brokenwood Forest Edge Chardonnay 2019

Brokenwood Forest Edge Chardonnay is a fine, restrained single-vineyard Chardonnay from the cool, high country of Orange in New South Wales.

High in the Orange region of central-west New South Wales, the Forest Edge Vineyard gives Brokenwood a true cool-climate source that contrasts with its Hunter Valley home. Set beside the company's Indigo Vineyard Chardonnay from Beechworth, it is the finer and more restrained of the two. French oak adds a cashew-like richness that is balanced by grapefruit and ripe pear fruit and a thread of natural acidity. The 2019 is complex, yet it keeps a sense of lightness on the palate, and the winemakers see it as a wine for long-term ageing.

If you can resist opening it now, give it a few more years in a cool cellar. When the time comes, serve lightly chilled, around 10 to 12 degrees, with roast chicken, pork belly or a creamy mushroom risotto.
