Brokenwood Forest Edge Chardonnay 2022

Brokenwood Forest Edge Chardonnay is an elegant cool-climate white from a single vineyard in the high-altitude Orange region of New South Wales.

While Pokolbin in the Hunter Valley is where Brokenwood began in 1970, the team has spent decades seeking out vineyards that suit particular varieties, and the altitude and cool growing season of Orange suit Chardonnay well. Compared with the company's Indigo Vineyard bottling from Beechworth, this is the more delicate expression, built on tension and finesse. The 2022 season brought lifted grapefruit and ripe white nectarine, framed by complementary French oak that lends a cashew note and a complex, layered palate without adding heaviness. Natural acidity keeps everything poised, and it is designed to build in the bottle over the long term.

Lightly chilled, it pairs well with pan-fried flathead, crab linguine or a soft washed-rind cheese. It opens up nicely in a larger glass now and should reward several years of cellaring.
