Brokenwood Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz 2023

Brokenwood Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz is an icon of Hunter Valley winemaking, sourced from one celebrated Pokolbin vineyard.

The story goes that this patch of ground was set aside for a cemetery before any vines went in, and the name stuck once it proved itself as an outstanding Shiraz site. The team matures the wine in large-format French oak, which lets the red spice and bramble of Hunter fruit take centre stage. 2023 delivered a wine the winemakers rank among the great Graveyards: perfect mid-density colour with purple hints, a supple and complete palate, and juicy acidity in harmony with ripe tannins and well-judged oak. It is a wine of poise and structure that will reward serious cellaring.

Decanting is a good idea while it's young. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees with a standing rib roast, lamb shanks or a wedge of aged Comté.
