Brokenwood Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz 2024

Brokenwood Graveyard Vineyard Shiraz is the estate's flagship, a single-vineyard Hunter Valley Shiraz with a long track record in fine cellars.

Planted on ground originally marked out as a cemetery, the vineyard lies in the Pokolbin heartland of the Hunter and has supplied Brokenwood's most prized red for decades. The style is classic Hunter: medium weight, fragrant and built on acidity and fine tannin, not sheer power. For 2024 the wine shows bright, mid-density colour, fragrant red spice and bramble fruit, and a supple palate with mid-palate sweetness that runs through to the finish. Natural acidity and fruit sweetness give it remarkable length, and the fine, long tannins set it up for many years of development.

Young Graveyard rewards patience, so tuck a few bottles away. When you do open one, serve it at around 17 degrees with herb-crusted lamb, roast pheasant or a ragù of wild mushrooms.
