Brokenwood ILR Reserve Semillon 2019

Brokenwood ILR Reserve Semillon is a cellar-released Hunter Semillon that arrives with six years of bottle age already behind it.

Named for Iain Leslie Riggs, whose long tenure as chief winemaker shaped the modern Brokenwood, this is the estate's reserve Semillon and it is only made when the vintage is exceptional. Unoaked and held in bottle before release, it shows how Hunter Semillon evolves from lean and citrusy into something far more layered. The 2019 has green-edged colour developing yellow tints, with toast and brioche on the nose alongside key lime pie and floral hints edging towards beeswax. On the palate, lively Tahitian lime and fresh acidity carry real texture and fruit weight, and the winemakers count it among their finest releases.

Try it lightly chilled with sashimi, grilled prawns with lime butter or a goat's cheese tart. It will keep building complexity with further cellaring.
