Brokenwood Indigo Vineyard Chardonnay 2024

Brokenwood Indigo Vineyard Chardonnay is a single-vineyard Chardonnay from Brokenwood's Beechworth site in north-east Victoria.

The high foothills of Beechworth have produced some of Australia's most sought-after Chardonnay, and the Indigo Vineyard is Brokenwood's foothold in the region. The 2024 vintage was a low-yielding one, which shows in a slightly fuller colour than usual, though it is still pale yellow-green. The wine is fermented entirely in French oak, mostly 500-litre puncheons, using a wild ferment, and it spends extended time on lees. That approach adds bran meal and toasty complexity to ripe grapefruit, while crisp acidity and balanced alcohol keep the palate zesty. Grapefruit pith and rockmelon run through a long finish.

Serve chilled, around 10 to 12 degrees, with roast chicken and tarragon, grilled crayfish or veal in a creamy sauce. It will reward a few years in the cellar.
