Description

Bubb + Pooley Syrah is a cool-climate Tasmanian red made in the finer, more peppery Syrah style rather than warm-climate Shiraz.

Bubb + Pooley is the Tasmanian label of winemaker Anna Pooley and her partner Justin Bubb, working alongside the family's Pooley Wines in southern Tasmania. Syrah is a relatively recent arrival in Tasmania, where only the warmest, driest sites such as those of the south east ripen it reliably. The name Syrah rather than Shiraz signals the style: moderate alcohol, fresh acidity and the savoury, spicy character associated with the northern Rhône more than with mainland Australia. The wine is matured in oak and bottled under screwcap.

Medium-bodied and savoury, it pairs well with lamb, duck and charcuterie; serve at around 16 degrees.
