Description
Buscemi Il Rosso is a red from the far north-western flank of Mount Etna in Sicily.
Etna is a working volcano, and its vineyards sit on terraces of black lava sand and ash at altitudes that reach well above 900 metres, high enough to ripen slowly in a Mediterranean climate. The west side around Bronte and Tartaraci, where the Buscemi family farm, is drier and less planted than the famous north slope, with very old ungrafted bush vines still in the ground. Work is by hand, fermentation uses native yeast, and the wine is matured in large neutral vessels so the volcanic soil stays in the foreground.
Serve at 16 degrees with grilled meat, pasta alla Norma or a hard sheep's cheese. It will hold for eight years.
