By Farr Shiraz is a peppery, cool-climate Shiraz from the Farr family's vineyards at Bannockburn, in Geelong's Moorabool Valley.

Gary Farr made his name as winemaker at Bannockburn before setting up this label on neighbouring land in the 1990s, and his son Nick now runs it. The family farm a few small, close-planted blocks on volcanic basalt, limestone, clay and quartz, in one of the driest, windiest parts of Geelong. Shiraz gets the same traditional handling as their Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Viognier: wild ferments, plenty of whole bunches and French oak. It leans to perfume, spice and fine structure over weight, and is counted among Victoria's benchmark examples.

Savoury, with fine tannins and real energy. Serve at 16–18°C with slow-roasted lamb, venison or mushrooms, or lay it down for several years.
