Ca' d'Gal Asti Spumante NV

Ca' d'Gal Asti Spumante is a fully sparkling, hand-harvested Asti from 1.5 hectares of Moscato Bianco di Canelli.

Asti Spumante spent decades as a mass-market product, made from high yields and sold on advertising rather than on the vineyard, and much of the category still works that way. Sandro Boido, at Santo Stefano Belbo, is the grower-producer answer to it. His fruit is picked by hand from a small holding of Moscato di Canelli, the finest clone of Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains. The important difference from Moscato d'Asti lies in the bottling: this is finished at four to five bars of pressure and around 7.5% alcohol, both well above the semi-sparkling style, which puts it closer to conventional sparkling wine and leaves it drier than its cousin.

Drink young and well chilled, at around 8°C, as an aperitif or with fresh fruit desserts, charcuterie or lightly spiced Asian dishes.
