Ca' d'Gal Moscato d'Asti Vite Vecchia 2016

Ca' d'Gal Vite Vecchia is a single-parcel Moscato d'Asti from sixty-year-old vines, released only after long bottle maturation.

Sandro Boido is among the few Moscato growers pushing the category towards serious wine, and this is his calling card. The fruit comes from one hectare on the steeper, limestone-rich slopes of the Valdivilla hillside at Santo Stefano Belbo, planted by his grandfather to the old Moscato di Canelli cultivar. Vine age, southerly exposure and the blue tufa of clay and limestone give unusually intense, golden bunches and a wine with textural depth and vinosity well beyond the norm for the grape. The bottles are then held for later release in large wooden boxes packed with sand, a traditional local method of maturation that moderates temperature and humidity and shuts out light entirely.

Complex and developed, and it will hold for several more years. Serve chilled at 8-10°C with hazelnut cake, ripe stone fruit or a plate of hard cheese.
