Description
Camille Giroud Chambertin Grand Cru is made from a fifth of a hectare of old vines on the limestone and marl locals call terres blanches.
Tiny by négociant standards, the house works across more than thirty appellations each year and has been led by Dutch-born winemaker Carel Voorhuis since 2016. Plantings on this south-east facing ground date from the 1940s through the 1960s. Everything is de-stemmed, fermented on native yeast, then raised eighteen months in barrel, half of it new, with three further months in tank.
Power and perfume arrive together here: black cherry, iron, dried rose and a long firm close that wants a decade. Decant, pour at 17°C, and keep the food plain — rare beef, hare, or aged Comté.
