Camille Giroud Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru grows at 230 metres on brown limestone over marl, on the gentler ground below Le Chambertin along the Route des Grands Crus.

Ann Colgin and Joe Wender bought the Beaune business in 2001 and left its quiet, low-intervention habits alone. A short cold soak precedes twelve to twenty-five days of native fermentation in open vats, and the wine spends fourteen months in barrel with a fifth new oak before three months in stainless steel. Fining agents are never used.

Softer and more open than the crus further up the hill, with ripe red cherry, sweet spice and a warm rounded middle. Pour at 16°C to 17°C with roast lamb, coq au vin or a truffled potato gratin.
